Ringo Starr has never made any secret of the fact that The Beatles were the best thing that happened to him. That is none more evident on the title track, 'Liverpool 8’, in which he proclaims, ‘When I look back / It sure was cool / For those four boys from Liverpool’.
While the rest of the Beatles stretched out and did their own thing, Ringo Starr has happily
continued on way preaching about Love and peace, and good ‘ol Liverpool.

The title track is his hats off to the town he loves so much, complete with football fans shouting ‘Liverpool’. For some fans of Starr it may come off as cheesy, but to me it’s a nice ease into an album that is never going to cause waves but will produce some ripples among his fanbase.
Liverpool 8 sees Starr team with Mark Hudson and former Eurythmic-turned producer Dave Stewart. The acclaimed Duo, help Starr to build a solid framework throughout the album and while it’s an album that is never going to win accolades for its lyrics, it is a fun album.
Track such as ‘For Love’ may make you cringe and reach for the remote to fast forward but others such as ‘Now That She’s Gone Away’ fair much better.
Lyrically, it’s not any better than ‘For Love’ or ‘Liverpool 8’ but Ringo does manage to deliver a solid vocal with a driving beat.
Other fine examples are ‘Harry’s song’ and the psychedelic-themed ‘Gone Are The Days’, which to no surprise is about the former Beatles heyday.
It’s hard to say whether all Beatles fans will enjoy Liverpool 8, but I’ve got to give Starr up for the solid drumming, and the enthusiasm that belies his 67 years.
I give it HHH
