Before The Fray hit the big time with How To Save a Life, they released this independent EP titled The Reason. Re-released by Epic after they became a sensation, it an earlier version of “Vienna”.

While I wouldn’t categorize it as a must-have, it does allow fans an insight into the development of the Denver band.
One of the aspects that I do like about this EP is that it’s not one that’s just been thrown together, but highlights the strengths of the band.

Each song is well written and produced, and captures their musical style. In listening to this, it’s hard to believe that The Fray was only starting together, and not an already established band.

I actually prefer the feel of this CD rather than their later stuff, especially tracks such as “City Hall”, “Unsaid” and “Some Trust”.

I give this 3/5.
