What can you say about this classic album? Well, a lot.
It’s an album that every true rock fan should have in their CD collection, and if they don’t well they don’t know shit about rock music.

Written mainly by Jim Steinman, he imprints his style on this album and much as Meat Loaf does. It was Meat Loaf’s first album and the album that catapulted him to fame.

It’s more of a Wagnerian rock opera than it is an album, but it’s one that most people who have heard it won’t forget for the classic song “Bat out of hell.”
But although that’s probably the best known song of Meat Loaf’s and off this album, another song that is unforgettable is “Paradise by the dashboard light”.
Written in three parts, it goes through the process of an adolescent boys angst and the sexual bargaining he has to go through with the resistant but willing girl.A true winner in every way, it’s one of those songs you just have to sing along to.

Ellen Foley plays the angst young girl in paradise and teams up with Jim Steinman for the evocative beginning of You took the words right out of my mouth.

Jim Steinman’s presence on the album is obvious, not just through his lyrics but through his music in
“Two out of three ain’t bad”.
It’s his piano skills that make that song even more emotional than just the angst in Meat Loaf’s voice.

With strong, well-written lyrics, creative guitar work, and the ever big voice of Meat Loaf this album is pure gold, even if it is a classic.

Stand-out songs: Bat out of hell, Paradise by the dashboard light, two out of three ain’t bad,
You took the words out of my mouth.

I give this 5/5
