In 2006, Boys Like Girls released their debut album within the U.S and, finally, almost two years later it has been released in Australia.
Fronted by singer/guitarist Martin Johnson (Formerly from The Drive), Boys like Girls are a punk group from Boston, Massachusetts.
As the album’s title suggests, Boys like Girls is… well an album about boys liking girls. Throw in a few different themes that touch on pre and post relationships, Johnson’s mother’s battle with cancer, and leaving home and you have a nicely rounded album.
While the band has stated that their influences include The Academy is, Reliant k, Jimmy Eat World, musically they are more like the radio-friendly Good Charlotte with a few shades of The All-American Rejects, The Goo Goo Dolls (see ‘Thunder’), and Vertical Horizon thrown in.
A promising rock album, tracks such as ‘Five Minutes to Midnight’ make it a worthy album to listen to.

It’s a style that seeps throughout the whole album.

While the band is not going to be renown for their brilliant song writing skills, they’re still a fun band to listen to.
So, if you like upbeat, overwrought pop songs then Boys Likes Girls is guaranteed to suck you in.
