Bring Me Your Love is the second album for City and Colour. Led by Dallas Green, the acoustic and folk melodies are certainly the furthest thing you would expect from a member of Alexisonfire.
Whilst it is a long way from Alexisonfire’s hardcore stylings, it makes Green and City and Colour all the more interesting.
The first thing that really stands out about Bring Me Your Love is its simplicity. With mainly just an acoustic guitar, and raw vocals, one could close their eyes and image that every nuance, every word, and every chord is right in front of you.
Not all tracks are simply just guitar and vocals though, and Green has added to some tracks the banjo, drums, and harmonica.
I’m not quite sure if the instruments, in particular the harmonica, were appropriate on some tracks but they certainly add a different flavour to the album.
One idea Green did have was to include a hand claps drums, which works beautifully on “Sleeping Sickness”- one of the rockier tracks on the album.“The Girl” is probably the best track on the album, as while many of the tracks on Bring Me Your Love are melancholy this one is upbeat.
What also filters through on this song was the enjoyment Green had performing it. If you’re looking for someone who isn’t trying to be a Jack Johnson wannabe, and for a singer with sincere lyrics than Dallas Green and City and Colour are definitely the band for you.
Best tracks on the album, “The Girl”, “Confessions” and “Body In A Box”
I give this HHH
