Damien Rice is a scruffy, singer-songwriter that stands out amongst the others. His 2003 debut, O, showcased Rice’s strong songwriter style coupled with his heartfelt lyrics.

Teamed with his collaborator for Lisa Hannigan, Rice has the ability to deliver a whisper of a lyric that will suddenly soar into a crescendo in such a way that it is breathtaking.

Live From the Union Chapel was originally released in 2003, recorded shortly after O was released. Why it’s now been released again in 2008 is hard to figure out, perhaps because it was originally only a promotional disc.
It is, however, a must have for all Rice fans as it showcases some of his earlier tracks at their best - live.
The crowd is a perfect companion to Rice’s music. In between each song they show their reverence, immediately quieting once Rice begins to perform. It’s an eerie silence that works well for Rice’s singing style.
The songs from O don’t change much from the album and the combination of both Rice and Hannigan work well.
They don’t so much harmonize, as let their vocals soar over each other.
Rumor has it that the two no longer work together, which is a bit of a shame, considering their dynamics.
There isn't a song on this live album that can be criticised, as Rice shows why he is such at talented performer, not just in a studio but also live.
I give it HHHH
